As the title and description say, I saw this L333 at my LFS and thought it was soo cute I had to have it. Couple of questions now:

1) I payed £30 for it, now doing a very quick online search it doesn't seem too bad of a price but what do you lot think?

2) as it was too cute I sort of jumped in without doing a little research. I thought oh it's a plec I'm sure it's pretty hardy, but now reading they require soft acidic water, I don't know what my GH and KH are but my Ph is about 7.4-7.6. I thought also if my LFS kept it well for 6 weeks, then it should be ok for me too, as I'm sure they use the same water supply as myself.

Sorry it was meant to be a quick post lol.

Thanks for your future help.

I've had 6 L-333's for a couple years now (hopefully they're maturing, and will start spawning this year) that were bred/raised in hard, alkaline water. Chances of yours being wild-caught and imported are slim to none, they're a fairly commonly bred species. I use coral in all my tanks to buffer the water chemistry. Stability is more important in the long run anyway. Worst thing about the L-333's (or just about any species of Hypancistrus) is their reclusive nature. I seldom see any of mine out and about in the tank.

Yeh mine is hiding in my ship, he occasionally pokes his head out, I bought blue led lights so I'll see if he comes out a little more now. Thanks for your input
