Hi all
Today my partner and i went to one of our lfs and got 5 L260's (Queen Arabesque) for £70. What a bargin. They are all about 4" long.

:dontknow: We are not 100% on what sex they are so will need a bit of help with that when we get some decent pics. We think we have 1 male and 4 female's but will need help to make sure.

 <<<<<<< green with envy!!!

I just bought 1 for £20 so that's a great deal you got!!

I take it you got them in a species tank with the intention of breeding them, there is an article on Planet Catfish about breeding them. I am amzed at the colour variation in the 260s. Mine is nearly totally black and white compared to the one in your 1st pic which is a loy browner, great fish all the same.

Be sure to keep us updated with breeding if it happens and I want 1st pic on the youngsters!!

Wow that's cheap as chips ! :alien: My lfs sells them for £20 each.
They are gorgeous
In that first picture, the two haging from the sides of the bags are both almost certainly male - as they have mottled bellies. Females generall have white bellies.
Your second photo I'm not sure. Third one is possibly male.

Enjoy :good:

(Edit: if you're interested in breeding, this article might be of use).

:hyper: What a great pick up  . Gorgeous Arabesques you have there. Good luck with the breeding project. Would be lovely to see you succeed.

Apparently with sexing these plecs, you have to look at the odontodes on their cheeks and the hairs on their pectoral fins. So if you could take close up pics of their cheeks and pectoral fins, as well as from straight above.

The totally white belly for females, and marbled belly for males isn't a fail safe method. A very reputable breeder has recorded on a few occasions spawning with males with a partially white and marbled bellies (which some females have too). Especially when there are more than one male in the tanks. These plecs are really hard to sex. I've had a few very successful breeders confirm that one of ours was female, where other people were convinced that my L260 was male.

Have you got any pics of your L134's?? I have two of these and they are so stunning. Did you get them at the same time as the L260's? How many did you get??

Great pics, I am WELL jealous.

Our female L134 has found her cave and only comes out at night for feeding time then she goes back in. Our male L134 stays under a piece of bogwood and dont move much. lol

2 of our L260s have found 2 caves, the other 3 are dotted around the tank. Still dont know the sexes they are but will be taking pics soon.

Will keep everyone posted.

Stunning pics of the L134's. That female is so gorgeous. Are you going to get more for your group?

With my two, I can definitely tell one is male now. Not too sure on the other one yet.
