I thought I'd share a picture of my Royal. It isn't often I get a chance to get a decent picture of her, so I took my chance last night.

I got this fish at less than half an inch, and in eighteen months she has reached roughly 7.5 inches. She eats the usual cucumber, wood, Tetra Prima and catfish pellets. But her favourite is mussell. I have three other pleco's, an L200, L177 and an L340, but she is my favourite of them all.

Wow thats nice! Ive been considering one of those for quite some time now but still a bit undecided.

If you have the room they are a lovely pleco, although they can be very territorial. They can grow to over a foot in length. They are unfussy about diet, but being a panaque, they need wood in their diet. As with most large pleco's, they are huge waste machines, so a large external filter is the minimum I would consider using on their tank.

You might want to cut back on the protein based foods if you're feeding them regularly....otherwise it can cuase serious problems for them in the long run.

Lovely looking panaque though, nice chew chew..

Thats a great growth rate, mine are much slower. What is your tank setup and tankmates? How many/much mussels do feed and how often? I agree with darkstar, too much animal protein can have serious implication later in life, and isnt something present at any great quantity in the wild/natural habitat.
