I've recently bought a L102 pleco (definitely a L102), but I can't find much info about them.
I've so far found they like a slightly meatier sort of diet; is this true? What is the best food to give him?
At the moment I've been adding bloodworm pellets, sinking catfish pellets and well left over food from the tank.
Well basically that is all I've found out, can anyone recommend a better/more varied diet for him and let me know more about them?
Thank you
I might still place vegetable matter in the tank and I say this because, just two days ago I lost my L102 that I have kept for three years
When I first aquired the fish,it showed little to no interest in vegetable matter, but did eat bit's of frozen krill, chopped earthworms, frozen brine shrimp, shrimp pellets,Biogold sinking cichlid pellet's,New life spectrum medimum pellet's ,and showed a keen interest in biofilm which was present on the substrate and back glass.
I am thinking that perhaps I should have placed vegetable matter in the tank as well, even though the fish rarely touched it.
I kept the fish in 75 gallon tank with six loaches, and adult Electric Blue dempsey(scared of his own shadow) without issues and they all ate the same foods.
Temp was 80 degrees F and tanks was filtered with two Emperor 400 filter's and an aquaclear 802 powerhead(att5ached to quick filter) for a little extra current that the loaches and pleco seemed to enjoy.(The Dempsey not so much)
My fish never grew longer than 4 inches and was around two inches when purchased.
Don't know what the cause of it's demise was,all the fish (loaches and dempsey) are fine, so I am leaning towards perhaps the fish not getting perhaps enough vegetable matter(grasping at straws), though I would have thought this would have resulted in problems long before now.
I just yesterday, aquired two juvenile LDA05 plecos that bear a striking resemblance to the L102 and they reportedly share similar diet's.
I think this time ,I shall place some smooth fairly large stones outside in a tub to gather algae and rotate them in an out of the aquarium as well as offer vegtables regardless of whether they are eaten or not.(seems cheap insurance)
Was gutted to lose this fish after three years it was one of my favorites.
