Just about to order this so need a quick reply if possible!

I've seen one of these (goldie pleco) for sale, £20 - Thats £100 cheaper than trimar so seems like a good buy!! Will it get on ok in a 20-30 gallon tank with angelfish and a rtbs?

No. They get to 14" and so ideally they need a tank that is a MINIMUM of 42"Lx18"Wx15"H.

If it is very small and you plan to upgrade within the next 6 months then that would be fine, but if your 20-30G tank is a long term tank then i dont think it would be big enough.

Ben

Oops, just ordered it!! according to the website it'll be about 5-6cm :) so only a baby!

I do plan to upgrade my tank in 6 months or so when im working (finally) and have some money :D I want a really big tank so hopefully it'll be fine in that :D

ok if its that size it will be ok for a while yet.

Remember that the scobiancistrus do not just eat algae, they require a good level of protein in their diet, in the form of prawns or at the least wafers with a level of meat content.

Ben

The website said carrots, courgette and things like that too, but hadn't thought of prawns, shall get some of those! :D

Ooh, you know if they'll eat cockles? Got hundreds of those left over as i used to feed tyhem to my starfish!!!

Probably would have a good munch on it, give it a try, pop one or 2 in after dark and watch, although if they dont get eaten you wanna remove them as cockles break down pretty nicely.

Ben

Ok.. Shall try.. If not im sure my RTBS will have a good go at it, she's a little pig

they grow very slowly... we've had out about 2 years now and its grown about 4.5" (to about 6")

Do you have any pics of yours? Tere was a picture on the website i ordered him from but it wasn't brilliant, it just seemed to have a black body and red fins, is that right?

I also just found something that says they only grow to a maximum of 6" in captivity

6" - nah... I've seen 12-14" ones relativly often.... with a price tag to match (the £120 on trimar will be this sort of size)

They are orange and brown/olive with orange spots...
this is the last decent picture I took - over a year ago now. (he runs away when he sees the camera)

Thanks for that picture, he's beautiful!! Looking at the picture on the website again it does have the spots, just a bit of a fuzzy picture!

I'd actually prefer to have a baby ones, they seem to do better if they grow up in the tank rather than being stuck in it as an adult...

Hi Jessica,

When are you expecting to get the L14 Plec? That was a good price for yours.

I have a Goldy, I have forgotten her size now, lol- she is big, Im guessing she is a female as she has no splines.

Here is a pic, mine is very shy, but is feeding, I love it when they blink
