Hello, a little while ago, I was a hypocrite and purchased a Long Tentacle anemone. I had been reccomended these anemones from a very successful reef keeper, the same guy who gave me the corals long, long ago. :hey: They live, by the way, except for the tree coral. Damn thing wouldnt stay were I put it. :grr:

Anyways, the anemone has crawled behind the live rock, mostly a shaded place. I have observed this behaviour before, in Riley's tank. The anemone was moved one day, and it chose a more acceptable spot in the front corner. I has stayed since then.

My question is, should I move the animal? If so, what would be a suitable position/place?

Hi lynden

I am by no means an expert on Nems, but whereever you place the nem, it will make up its own mind if it like the position & if not it will find a place it prefers, but if the nem is hiding away it could simply be its way of dealing with of bright light after being transported in darkness & he should come out within a 4 - 5 Days, I would keep a very careful eye on him thought JUST IN CASE as sick nems do also go into hiding

I agree, if it hasn't moved into the open after about a week, then you may have a sick one on your hands.

Many of us caution people over and over about anemones. In general:

- they require high lighting and expert conditions
-they are long lived
-an anemone will move around in a tank in search of a better place if it is unhappy, and, in doing so, can sting the s#$%^t out of anything it touches
-it can get caught in intake grates and be torn to shreds
-when it dies, it is almost a guarantee to nuke your tank

Totally agreed, I am way afraid of keeping anemones in fear of my other corals getting stung. They can be in one spot for ever, then start moving around for no reason.

But when I had an anemone, it would hide all the way under its rock every morning, then after the lights had been on for a few minutes it would come back out into the light.
