What's a good tank mate for kuhlis. I have been thinking
of putting in 4 female bettas - sisters and about 4 kuhlis in
a heavily planted with several caves 12 gallon cycled tank.
However, I'm open to suggestions.

Sounds fine :) Khulis are very cute but you don't see them that often, try putting a cave near the glass (and for caves, they seem to like smaller caves best).

Sounds fine to me. The more heavily planted the tank the more likely you'll get to see them since they will feel more comfortable with more hiding places.

I really like the little guys. I had them about 45 years ago before anything was known about them. Had a female with eggs but lost the entire tank when the heater went while I was away.

I've got heavy plantings and three caves of various sizes set up. I saw some really nice little guys last week but thought I might have too much amonia in the tank because the large number of females in the tank. I thought I would wait until this week to get them when I ship the females out. Needless to say when I came home and checked the figures... I could have gotten them 0-0-10... never fails. Watch they won't have any now.

The more hiding places, the more you see them.Mine have a piece of wood, some fry grass and some other fake plants. They mostly seem to hide in the fry grass though I think two have taken up residence under the wood. I still rarely see them. I'm going to be adding more hiding places soon but seeing as it's only a 10g, I'm kind of limited.

Mine eat sinking pellets, bloodworms, occasionally flakes, when I feed those to them. The best way to feed them regardless of the food is at night when the other fish are less active. Mine are alone in a 10 and don't have to compete so I don't have any tips beyond that. They do seem to feel better at night eating though.

Have you been able to find any kuhlis in the LFS around where you live? I havent seen any..

Good Luck! B)

I want to get more but haven't seen any since last year when I got mine. They must still be recovering from the off season they had.

Yeah, I remember you saying that they were not too common these past few years. The LFS I get most my fish from said they are on his list, but not available right now...
