They like to be in groups, don't they? Could I put 4 in a 10gallon, as long as I keep up on my water changes and make sure the tank's kept clean? Could I also fit something else in there with them? Like some tetras?

IMO any tank over 5g is fine. I'd go with 8 in a 10g with some tetras or something.

Well make sure you have some sand in here as they like to burrow into it. Also put fine mesh over any filter pipes etc to stop them getting in!

I've got 5 in a 10g with a Betta and other than hiding out a lot, even before the Betta, they've had no problems living in there for a couple of years. They don't need a lot of swimming space since they're generally slow moving except when frightened. Provide them with plenty of hiding places and low lighting and they'll appear more often.

3, 4, something like that. But skinny and low bioload. There's no reason a standard 10g filter can't cope with the bioload.

they are skinny and don't create a lot of poo (biowaste)
you could easily get 8 IMO as long as you didnt have a TON of other fish
