They have recently been swimming up and down in pairs throughout the tank. Can I expect baby loaches?

Congratulations! If there is sufficent hidey holes for eggs to survive in, few predatory fish, clean water, and microorganisms for food, then yes! You're well on the way to be a loach granparent! Jealous!

I have 2 thick amazon swords that I planted a bit too close together, a thick java fern and a bunch of vallisneria that has knitted over the surface. I have two flattish pieces of wood leaning against stones making caves, the larger of the two has in itsel plenty of nooks and crannies and has the fern tied to it. I also have a larger piece of wood that in itself it has a few caves and cracks.

Enough? ;)

I hope I see SOME baby loaches, but I have small rasboras and more importantly 5 dwarf gouramis. Hidey holes could be enough though...

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Java Moss and Java Fern are the best places for loach eggs...is there any way you can remove the gouramis? They're going to be a tad difficult with the babies...try keeping your fish nicely fed over the next week or two so they aren't tempted to nibble on any babies, just until they're big enough. Try putting some almond leaves in the tank, so mulm can build and microorganisms flourish and the babies have something to eat while they're still micro sized :good:

I wouldn't know where to put them, but they are well fed. I was trying to breed them :D

Plenty of mulm as it is, I hardly ever syphon the gravel, and the loaches seem to like it that way.

I guess that's what encouraged them to spawn...

Sorry to Hijack this thread but I have just moved back to Bath and would love some more Kuhlis! Does anyone know anywhere near that I could pick some up?

Try on tropical fish finder http://www.tropicalfishfinder.co.uk
I have found it very useful, albeit a wee bit unreliable.
