One of my 20 gallons was a little bare so i decided to finish stocking it

it contained:
1 blue gourami (3")
1 gold gourami (3")
1 dwarf gourami (2.5")
1 flying fox (5")

=13.5"

the filter isn't as good as the other tanks (which almost don't even need cleaning even though i still do) so i decided on botton feeders
i didn't want to split up the corydoras school in the other tank so
i went out and got an upsidedown catfish (4") and a kuhli loach (3")

i did research first of course and found both species are NOT schooling fish although the will school if kept in large bunches so i made sure it was safe to just have one of each

i was just wondering though if the kuhli is ok in a tank with gourami
everywhere i looked it said that it was ok but i would rather hear from your experience

i'm assuming they'd be fine. i bought some kuhlis with plans to move them in with my gouramis once theyre bigger (tiny little guys right now, have a fish in with the gouramis that would eat them right now so theyre growing up in another tank first). they'll stay on the bottom, theyre peaceful little guys. i don't see any issues, but then, i haven't tried the combo yet.........................

My khulis as you can see from my sig and with several large fish inculding Gouramis. I would advise you to get more than one as they are socail fish.

i have no room for another
as you can see from the post it comes to 20.5" in my 20 gallon with just one
if i had 2 it would be 23.5" in my 20 gallon :S

Thats fine as long as you keep on top of water changes etc. :)

Right. Experienced fishkeepers often say that the 1" rule is too restrictive, and is only used as a guideline for beginners. It's more about body volume and excrement. Large body fish = large amounts of waste. Kuhlis have a worm shape and thus cannot be given the same consideration as a (for instance) gourami of the same length.

Hi Pointy_kitty :)

I've kept kuhlis with gouramis and they were fine. The gouramis natural territory is the top and the kuhlis are bottom dwellers so there is no conflict of territory. :D

And I agree with ryan that you should get another kuhli or two. You have room and they really are an exception to the 1" per gallon rule.

good for you
sometimes you have to take advantage of when your concience is out ;)

They should be fine but make sure that the loaches have a cave or two to retreat to in case there is some confrentation(sp?) because my gouramis throw fits some times (not bad they just chase fish around a bit).
