ok so the betta project starts soon. :p anyway if any of you have any pics of kritter keepers(preferably unheated)or anything similar plz post a pic and any problems youve had with it.thanks

They do scratch easily, and eventually crack, though I never had any trouble with leaking, even after a crack formed.

The labels don't specify how many gallons a tank is, so before I got enough experience to eyeball it, I had to guess or measure out my water the fist time with a measuring cup.

I think better colors would be nice. Not everyone who buys a Kritter Keeper is 9 years old. I bought a reptile kritter keeper because I didn't want neon pink, but the main tank acrylic is tinted slightly orangish so it makes my fish look...off.

I wish they wouldn't put those little handles on the top. Even though any sane person would know not to pick the whole tank up by those...

What'd I tell you...PINK!

Haha, I know that is just the ad. AND of course, you can get whatever you want. I am just not a pink type person.

I have a 1.17 gal keeper in my 5 year old's room. (Turquoise with pink sparkly marbles LOL). My male seems happy in there. It took him awhile to get used to my daughter's fauning over him etc...She keeps a Barbie next to him so he doesn't get lonely. I thought it was cute and he really seems to like the Barbie.

My only complaint is that it is not high enough for any heater (at least that I can find) so it gets cooler at night. Right now I am not worried but when it hits fall I am going to have to come up with something.

If you want something a bit more toned down lidwise, you can get the same things but called something like herp havens. Have a look on Aquatics Online.

That's what I have! :D Good choice! lol!

I've had mine for about 2.5 years and have never had any problems with cracking. It's housed two bettas (seperately of course) and the only issue I've had is, like re-devil and LifeBear said, they scratch easily.

Sandig - I have a Sacem Blutherm 25w heater and it fits fine in my Kritter Keeper. Horizontally it takes up about 3/4 of the tanks' back wall, so it would probably fit in a 1.17. :)

How are you cleaning these "keepers" to scratch them so badly?

As with anything acrylic you should only clean/wipe the surface with something rated for cleaning acrylic/plastic surfaces..otherwise you are going to scratch/scuff it up.

Here is what I use on the inside of my acrylic tanks

acrylic scrubber

Here is what I use on the outside of my acrylic tanks (also shown on this page is a scratch removal kit..I have one of those also..comes in handy at times)

Acrylic cleaner
^^^^
Thse are probably the best prices you will find.

:)

They're probably doing what I do - remove the fish, remove the decor, then put some hot water in it and swish it around, then repeat a couple of times. I swish very carefully now because I'm starting to move over to mostly acrylic tanks - but I'm guessing the gravel scratches it.

I have an acrylic tank for my frog, and I am careful when cleaning it. If you swish the water around with your hand, and not by swirling the container, you're good to go. But I also found that if you use marbles or sand it stays unscathed.

yeah im getting those
i dont think im using substrate becuase my bettas will be rescues,so could have finrot etc so it will be easier to keep clean
