I've always thought that Kribs were S. American...but have recently seen a post about Kribs on the African board...so, now I am confused... I wanted to eventually put a pair in my tank, but it is a S. American tank - so if it is African that's out...

Ericka,

If you are going for a strict South American tank then you are out of luck as Kribs are African. However they are quite hardy and versatile and will be OK in a wide range of water conditions - they don't need the specialist set up such as those for Malawi cichlids.

Here's some info from www.fishprofiles.com:
Pelvicachromis pulcher
Common Names: Krib, Kribensis, Rainbow Krib
Synonyms: Pelmatochromis pulcher
Family: Cichlidae
Origin: Niger River Delta, Nigeria, Africa.
Main Ecosystem: River
Temperament: Peaceful.
Diet: Carnivore
Care: Feed with flakes. Add many plants and hiding places.
pH: 5.5 - 8.0
Temperature: 24°C - 27°C (75°F - 81°F)
Hardness: 5.0°dH - 20.0°dH
Potential Size: 10cm (3.9")
Water Region: Middle-Bottom
Activity: Diurnal
Breeding: Use pH of 6.5 and a higher temperature of 26-27°C. Make sure there is some sort of cave in the tank as the eggs are laid on the roof of these. Keep the babies with their parents for as long as possible.
Gender: The male is larger, less colourful, has a pointed anal fin and has a longer tail.
Comments: Peaceful for an African cichlid.
