I have two pairs of Kribs for a breeding project. They are in a heated/filtered 20 gallon tank with live plants, pots, caves, etc. I have had them for about a month and while they have been displaying all the right behaviours (female red bellied, have paired up, etc.), nothing is happening. Am I being impatient or does it generally take longer than this for them to spawn?

I also have one more question. I noticed today that in the aquatics store they had Kribs for sale that were quite a bit larger than mine. Could that be the reason that mine not breeding - they are not full sized/fully mature?

Thanks in advance for any help.

My kribs bred after I did a big water change on their tank, and fed them frozen bloodworms for 3-4 days. But like you said patients does play a big role. I may have just got luckey. I think you are better off sticking with the small ones you already have, as you can condition them early.

Tis true. If you really want to know if they are old enough to breed, try this:

Feed high protien foods often ( something with 60 percent protien, like freeze dried mysis shrimp ect.)
Do daily, 15 percent water changes, with cold water( make sure it's dechlorinated)
Turn the tank temp up to 82 degree's.

The issue could also bee the fact you have 2 pairs in a 20g. That may be a bit to small for them. Are sure they aren't fighting, instead of displaying?

plenty of high protien, and water changes, but dont turn the temp up,iam onto my 4th set of fry,and have never turned heat up.i do think your tanks a bit small for 2 pairs, you could have trouble when they do start to breed.
make sure you have loads of places for them to hide.
good luck,kenny
