ok, i got my kribs to breed a while ago and all was fine, i still have the babies alive, but now the female is being ver aggressive to my male kribensis, his tail is getting ripped to shreds, she did this when they first met, but not to such an extreme, whats up?

This is a little strange?

Is she still really protective of her babies? Is she starting to egg back up? Does it only happen when the male gets close to the babies? What size tank do you have them in?

The male could of simply stopped protecting the babies, and she is taking him as an intruder when he comes too close, which would result in her chasing him away.

I have never had any problems like this with my Kribs.

Is she starting to egg back up? again, she might be, she is getting the purple belly back, but its only been about 1 and half to 2 weeks since she laid this batch
Does it only happen when the male gets close to the babies? no, its all over the tank
What size tank do you have them in? a 17 gallon

Well, if she is starting to egg back up again, purple belly, then it would be time to start thinking about removing the fry to putting them into a fry tank for you to raise them. If you do this, move the fry out of the 17 gallon tank, then see if she still chases the male around.

Oh, one more thing. Is the female physically larger than the male? If she is larger than the male, then that might be the case?

they are about the same size, the males a tiny bit bigger, i still need to get a fry tank but i will probably put them in the main tank and do a little survival of the fittest game

Are there any other fish in the tank besides the Kribs and the Krib fry?

Yup, try to get the fry out of that tank, as the mother is not around them that much anymore and is starting to egg back up. Use a net or just siphon them out, which ever works for you.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of food are your feeding the fry?

-FHM

no, there is no other fish, ill move the babies at the next water change, in 2 days, i feed the babies finely crushed flakes

Let us know what happens.

Also, I will let the member Kribensis12 know about this thread, he is really good with Kribs.

Sometimes, fish like humans don't like each other. The female is basically saying " Get out of here, I want the kids to myself! ". She will ultimatley kill the male if you don't remove him.

ok, is it safe to remove him just for a little bit then put him back so they can breed again? and would a single male kribensis be agressive to other fish in my main tank?

I have had single males in my tanks on many occasions. They are peaceful as can be when they are not actively breeding.

ok, sweet, but the babies are swimming around more and the female is letting the male stick around.

Glad to hear they are getting along better now! Keep us posted!

well there are about 10 living babies and the males tail is growing back quite fine, the babies are so cute and fun to watch and are growing quite fine.

I'm glad they got back together! Usually it doesn't turn out that way. Just be aware for future aggression.
