Has anybody come across this before, I have 3-4 large-ish koi (for the size of my pond) that lately seem to have developed a taste for wasps.

A few weeks ago a wasp was drinking sat on a lily pad when one of the koi knocked it in and then ate it
It didn't seem to suffer so I didn't think much about it until my brother came in a week or so later and said he'd just seen one of them do the same thing to a wasp that was on the side of the pond, however this was a different koi.

Then at the weekend Mum said to me that that morning she had been sat in the conservatory and heard a lot of splashing coming from the pond and on further investigation had seen the koi fighting over a wasp that had fallen in.

Now i'm not complaining as I can't stand wasps and I can't see any problems with the fish. I was just curious to know if anybody else had mad koi that eat weird things?

koi will eat anything they will test things to see if its edible

but nope never seen one of mine eat a wasp
they did find a small snail that had managed to get under the net and the water level had dropped slighty due to no rain, so mr snail was happy till i added 220 ltrs of water, the koi loved it spent ages trying to suck it off the side lol, eventually one got it didnt spit it out it was well and truely munched. i have never given the koi snails it just natural for then to try things, they then realise they like what they have just eaten then they eat it again

nothing to worry about :good:
