Hi guys, 1 of my koi is not looking too good

he appears to be gasping for air & struggling 'to keep balance' in the water

iv isolated him put him in some water with some chemical thing and put the oxygen ball in with him

he cant swim upright, he keeps flipping

like theres something wrong with a fin

:(

Any advice?

discriptions not very good tbh.

need more info and more than likely pictures. from what youve put about the koi not beng able to stay upright would indicate to me its something to do with the swim bladder.

what 'chemical thing' have you put in with him? You can do more damage than good putting the incorrect 'chemicals' in.

ok i'll try to get a pic, and i'll find out what the chemical thing is. dad gave it to me.

If it is his swim bladder can it be cured? :(

F-M-G Mixture.

by NT Labs, its for Koi's

treats parasites, infections etc...

http://www.fishdoc.co.uk/FAQ.htm#equillibrium

look at the 4th paragraph down. named 'My fish are upside-down/ can't swim'

take the food out of the bowl asap. It wont eat as its ill and will make the water worse.

dont think that treatment will work tbh either. Its not a fungus and not te sort of infection there talking about.

Take the food out, fish can go for 2 weeks without food
Change 50% of the water with the pond water
Chane 25% of the water 2x day (once in the morning once in the evening) if your going to keep it in the bowl.

Test your pond water as swim bladder is to d with water quility.

Done 3 water tests and all are showing good quality water.

Iv just given him some peas and he's had a big number 2.

So i should use, 50% tap water 50% pond water?

if the pond water is defernity 100% fine then use the pond water for all the changes. throw the old water down the drain.

depends on what the other website says though as ive never had to treat for swim bladder before. but it will be hard to keep the parameters good in that size bowl.

hi we have a very large kio pond and when we moved thm in 2 the new pond one tuck really bad to the water so we fished it out and was doing every think yas was doing and put it in a bucket same as yas and added pond salt it refived it in about 1 hour and now its happy as larry onast we didnt no how 2 cure them our self so now we have the salt ready and a big bucket just inase lol

tell us what you do for your regular pond and filter care
things like how you clean your filter and what do you wash it in
how do you top your pond up
you know the boring stuff

vary its diet ,if you use cheap pond sticks go for some thing like a pellet, also feed peas or lettuce both good for their digestion

a salt bath also makes it easier for a sick or injured fish to maintain its internal body salts
salt is good for stress, bacterial and parasite problems
some people say try proping the koi up its something to do with fluids draining to where they shouldnt causing more pressure on the swim bladder, and if you can warm the fish up a bit because cooler/cold tempuratures can effect the swim bladder to

or use somethig like Aqualibrium

but the fish may never recover but give it a go
