Koi from indoor to outdoor

Ok, my mom and dad have just built an outside pond. A friend of ours has a 29 gallon tanks that have a couple Koi in it, and they are getting rid of them to get cleaner fish, so they are giving us the Koi for the pond. I keep thinking it's just not right to throw these Koi that have lived inside for a couple years, outside. Are there any special things that need to be done in order to keep them alive? My mom has this "they are just fish" mentality, but I made her promise not to put them in until I got more information on them. If anyone has any advice and/or websites I could go to to find out more, it would be much appreciated? Thanks!

As long as the pond has a pump and filtration it is fine and will certainly benefit the Koi as they have been kept in a 29 gallon tank and require around 1000 gallons.
