I have a couple of questions about this strange fish.

1) Is it possible to tell the sex of a Knight Goby?

2) How often do they mate/spawn?

3) How does this fish mate?

4) How many may I place in 10gallon tank?

5) How many fry/eggs are there usually at a mate/spawning?

6) Will the fry be ok with parents in same tank or will the parents eat them?

7) What kind of food should I feed this fish?

8) Does salt have to be added in water of the tank fish is in?

I know it's alot but I've found this group to be very helpful sorry for burying you with all of these questions. But I just :dunno:

1) Males are larger and females may show a yellow colouring when ready to spawn.

2) As often as you want them too as long as they are conditioned properly.

3) Similar to cichlids the fish go through a extended courtship before laying eggs on the roof of a cave.

4) None, this fish should have a 20g tank minimum.

5) Up to 1000 eggs may be laid by a mature female.

6) Th male will guard the eggs till they hatch the female must be removed, after hatching remove the male too.

7) All types of live foods, flakes and pellets may also be taken once the fish has become used to them.

8.) The fish is a brackish fish and requires salt at a dose of 4 tablespoons to 5 gallons to be added to the water.

Thank you so much. So basically I couldn't tell if the knight is a female or male before I buy them right? and also what kind of cave would be good for the to lay eggs. Because I have 1 in my 10gallon as you might can tell and I have the little small florescent thing in there and he's always in there untill i put food in there. Are bloodworms ok for them too?

The best way to get a breeding pair is to buy a minimum of 6 gobies and wait until a pair is formed, then remove the remaining gobies and return them to the store.

Bloodworms are favourite food of knight gobies and can be used as staple part of their diet.

I use upturned clay flower pots with a small openings cut out of the side as caves for cave spawning species but any cave like ornament wil be fine.

So I can just use regular tablesalt you get from winn-dixie in the tank for them? And also when you say wait till a pair forms do you mean them schooling together? Basically always with each other?

When a pair forms they will take over a cave together and act aggressivly toward the remaining fish.

Do not use table salt! Only use marine salt from the lfs or kosha (sp?) sea salt.
