There are a few different species of Knife fish. the biggest being the Clown Knife reaching sizes of 24 inches. However there are smaller ones like the Black Ghost Knife or Brown Knife, which one are you talking about?

for a clown knife, you would really need a tank 5or 6 x3x2 foot. these like ryan said can get to 24" and some will even reach 36" but 24" is more common in captivity

my brown ghost is just fine in my 25g tank...............but just in case im gonna move him to my africans tank if its safe

surely black ghost knife fish grow very large to?? i would of got one if they didnt

black ghosts can get to around 2' but the biggest i'v seen is a 14" one but 18" is the bigges its really going to get in the average tank.

african knife fish dont grow very large but are no where near as good looking as BGK
