I've been planning on setting up a 10 gallon for my King betta (an upgrade from 5 gals) and I was originally going to add just a small shoal of pygmy cories, but I went to my LFS the other day and they had celestial pearl danios again and I really want some and I was wondering if anyone had experience with keeping king bettas and other fish. I've had bettas that would flare at snails and seemed pretty aggressive, but my king betta doesn't seem that interested in his reflection or the snails, etc. I just want to know if their temperament is significantly different from Betta splendens.

Greetings Friend, I have only had "King" Betta 2wks I've observed them 6hrs a day from the first day home I saw they were more aggressive than the regular betta, They reminded Me of the betta we use to get in the late 80's since then to present we betta breeders in America have gone away from the killer aggressiveness, and drawn towards the beautty we all love in the betta splenden! As for the "KING"

"King" bettas are just a variant of Betta splendens. They are in fact the same species, just bigger-selectively bred that way, much like breeding for color or tail type. They were bred to be bigger is all. They are no more or less aggressive than any other type of splendens.
with that being said, if your guy seems placid, give the danios a go. Not only are they very beautiful fish, they are very peaceful. Just make sure that the tank has lots of plants for the betta and the danios.
all the best
cheers
