Killi's

check out the american killifish associations website: http://www.aka.org/

they have great info on care, feeding, and breeding requirements.

what type of killi do you have??

There's that many I don't know. :-( doesn't matter now anyway as my female died during the night my ph was a little off for her liking I think but I've sorted it now I think.

I'm going to go to the fish shop again and get 2 females soon and ask him what type they are.

Hi all,

Ah killi's, it is a shame here in the uk so many people overlook them. Most of the local fish shops wont even stock them. Unless of course you are happy to pick up the aphysemion gardneri which I have occasionally seen about.
a pal of mine found a killie charity auction on the internet in the uk which was held a couple of weeks ago. We went and could not believe the varieties available! Man, I was like a kid in a sweet shop! The prices were rediculusly cheap! I was paying £2-£7 per pair. Most were £2. Heres what I got:
rivulus tenuis
aphysemion elberti
aphysemion doboisi
aphysemion celiae
aphysemion cognicum
aphysemion australae gold
aphysemion geryi
fundulapanchax marmoratum
I do plan to try to breed some of them. I think the rivulus will probably be the first. I have found these quite easy in the past. That was with rivulus cryptocallus.

As regards breeding them, first you need to find out what type you are getting from you LFShop. Some types breed different to others. Aphysemions, epiplatys and rivulus can be bred with mops as they are adhesive spawners. Northobranchius and cynolebias are substrate spawners which require peat as a substrate and patience as the eggs can take a couple of months to hatch.

Find out what type you have is the main thing.

Pretty sure its a aphysemion infact almost possitive. I'm going to try and get some females.

They are so gorgeous and farely easy to keep I don't know people would want a tank without them.

Where abouts do you live by the way are there any shops nere you that sell Killis and if not can I have your babies lol.

Just had a look on the AKA website and my god they are some beautiful Killis you got there. If only I had the money I'd set up as many Killi tanks as I could and have loads if you got any spare :D.

Hi DRD 1812,

I am Just off junction 21 of the M1 at Leicester. I am not sure exactly where I am in relation to where you are (Castleford).

When I got back from the auction I had to set up 5 small tanks for some of them as the females are similar in colouration so I did not want to take any chances mixing them up. I have got to sell off a couple of cichlids before I can start breeding them all to allow space.

Very few shops around Leicester sell killi's other than Aphysemion gardneri (yes I do have a large pair of them too). Must say it was great to get some of these other varietys. I have bred the aplocheilus lineatus and rivulus cryptocallus in the past and found them quite easy. I am hoping when i am ready these will be the same. As of when I do I will give you a shout for some young.

Are you north or south of Leicester?

I live next door to leeds. There are 2 shops I know of round here that sell killi's one will only get them if you ask them to order them in and its about 15 quid a pair the other gets them on a very irregular basis they've only had 3 types before I got 2 of them but the 3rd sold out before I had chance. I was planing on gettin some more of the one's they got in last wednesday but when I rang up yesterday they had all sold out already.

You'd think with em being that popular they'd get alot more in wouldn't you.

there are some breeders on aquabid.com that will ship worldwide (fish or eggs). also, on the aka site, they have breeders who will sell fish and eggs, you might find one that could ship eggs to you. you'll find a greater variety. you might also want to do soem searching to see if there are any breeders over there. there are just so many beautiful varieties, i wish lfs carried them more. i have a pair of S. boitonei, a pair of A. gardneri "Lokoja", and a pair of A. australe oranges. love them. wish i'd found them sooner.
