i have a 20 gal that i'm contemplating what i want to do with it. i want a change, have some other decisions still to make.

but i'm curious about killis. mainly, what level of the tank do they spend most of their time? also, do they prefer to be groups or trios or does it not matter? are males okay with other males or are there issues there?

thanks much!

They're top dwellers. I've never owned killifish but I assume 1-2 males per 2-4 females or so. This rule isn't always accurate, as each fish has its own characteristics. I'm sure someone that owns killifish will offer their knowledge on the subject.

Edited to add: I do know that you're supposed to keep a tight lid on the tank, or they may jump out.

Most killies are top to middle dwellers and most are sold as a pair( 1 male 1 female). It all depends on the species Mam, choose one you like and then, like you always do, research it :)

i've only done limited research, as i am just curious at the moment. what little i've looked at so far really didn't say one way or another about tank level or grouping needs. but if they tend to be sold in pairs, thats good to know. i'll have to scout the lfs to see whats about, maybe contact the local killi club, and bug noelberg some

thanks :D

There is an article in a magazine I'm reading right now on killifish. I skimmed it , but haven't gone in depth. Let me know if you want any info, I'll see what it's got.
