Hi all,

I usually post in the livebearers forum, but hopefully one of you can provide more help. I have a 40 g. tank with mostly guppies. I have about 40-50 fry of all ages ( a few days to a few months) swimming around in there at any given point. I wanted to add a few bottom dwellers to the tank, but was concerned for the safety of the fry. I was told that a khulie loach would be an ideal addition, but when I went around to several pet stores I couldn't find any! Do khulie loaches go by an alternate name that may be more common to see in a store? If not, can anyone recommend another similar fish that may be a good addition to my tank?

Thanks!

there are many breeds of loach, iv seen the kulie loaches b4 and have owned one but resently they've been hard to find, u'd be better of purchaseing another breed.

Khuli loach.

They are hard to find, poor breeding has bread some bad genes into them.
I have lots, and they are great, but the last bunch I got seem to be dieing off. and its sad, cause I dont know what it is.

if you can find them make sure they quarantied them for a week and have had them in their tank for like a month.

Also a khuli will get the small fry, esspecially if the fry are hiding in plants, caves.

I would suggest to look for a nice cory.

Yeah, a cory or a plec. The kuhlis will eat small fry. Mine eat brine shrimp and black worms and other live foods. I wouldn't go with other loaches, as the kuhlis seem to be the most mild mannered of the loaches (my red tailed sand loaches ate a 4" blue lobster!!). If you're looking for a bottom feeder that will stay small, try something like a clown pleco. They don't get more than 4-5". A cory would do the job too. Good luck!
