hey, i bought some (3) khuli loach to add to the two i already had and within two weeks i have just one
left :-( they all have died. i found each one, one at a time out in the open just lying on its side no marks, no fungus, no white spots nothing.

can anyone tell me what is going on please????

the water is asbsolutely fine, the tank is nowhere near fully stocked, there are no other bottom dwelling fish.

Are you sure they are dead? Lots of Khuli Loach lie on their sides when there is not enough room to hide.

That's the main problem with kuhlis. They don't ship well at all and if the store had just gotten them in, then there's a chance that's the problem. For some reason whatever kills them (labeled KUSS because we don't know what it is), also spreads to those healthy kuhlis in the tank. It took me three shipments of fish last year to get three that lived thru the ordeal. I just ordered 10 on line last week and thankfully these appear to be doing quite well. They have passed the 7 day period that the deaths usually happen in and are active and eating well.

If your LFS has them in, wait until they have been in the store for at least a week before buying them. Although I bought my bunch on line, I waited until he had them in his store for 10 days before having them shipped out. They also looked really good to the store owner which was another plus.

Congrats on your new kuhlis nashnut. I've talked to someone about the same problem you're talking about. The shipment from southeast asia is hard on them. I had not heard about it spreading to other kuhlis, but quarantining is always a good idea, especially with wild caught fish.

I had not heard about it spreading to other kuhlis,

I saw this once. (At the store, not my place). Whatever it was, it killed all new striped kuhlis, plus black kuhlis which were in the store for at least a month.

Yeah they wered dead allright  they were pale and some of the other fish had been having a go :/

Unfortunatley I now only have one left  i plan to get some more but i am waiting untill i see them in another store, the store i got them from is somewhat dodgy. At least half, if not slightly more of the fish bought from this place have died, and virtualy all fish bought elsewhere have lived!!!
I know that a quarantine tank is ideal but you try telling the missus that.

Just explain to her how it will save loads of money on buying medications and replacing fish. I'm certain she would see the logic in that, especially if you tell her that you can spend that money on her instead. :D

It's a foolproof plan. :good: Trust me, I have six tanks now. You can also play the "hobbies reduce stress" card and the "increased humidity slows aging" angle. Soon you too will succumb to MTS.
