got a few questions about these fella's

firstly will they get on with my clown loach ?

Will they do the same job to the sand as malaysian snails do to stop build up of toxic gases>?

How many will i need for them to be happy?

What diet will they need?

havent found them locally but may go online to get them as i'd rather have these instead of snails to mix the sand over.

Cheers Ben

id reccommend three kuhlis minimum, but they register almost nil on the bioload
they do fine with my clown loaches, and if any problems suddenly did occur, the kuhlis can usually can wedge themselves somewhere nothing else can.

my khulis root around in the sand constantly, i would say as long as you keep an eye on the sand they should do the same job as the snails.

i feed mine on bottom feeder pellets, bloodworm and the odd bit of veg (if the bristlenose lets them anywhere near it)

they are great little fish, at first mine hid a fair bit but now you see them resting in the plants and coming out in the day. as soon as the lights turn off at night they go bonkers :D

a couple of pics of mine

i have 6 of these in my tank, never see them much,as i have loads of places for them to hide, but now and again you see them rooting about, love them, funny little things they are,i heard they do better in 4s 5s. mine were 5 for £10 but when i got them home there were 6 in the bag,,kenny

As long as your sand bed isn't overly deep (>1"), it shouldn't have any real trouble with gas buildup.

They are very peaceful fish and should be kept in groups. The more the better.

They eat just about any meaty food off the bottom.

So, here's the 411 on coolie loaches. It is best to keep them in groups-the more the better. Your substrate will have to be of fine sand. Once I made the mistake of adding a coolie to a gravel aquarium, and he tried to burrow in the gravel and got all scratched up. They eat tropical flake, but it is best to feed them at night, because that is when they are most active. It is really hard to net them. They need lots of plants in their tank, because they like to intertwine them selves in the bottom of the plants. They get to 3&half to 4 inches. They are (in my experience) prone to white spot. I don't know if they'd get along with clown loaches. As far as I know both species are peaceful. But they both mainly swim in the bottom zone, and clown loaches are big, so if your tank is big thats fine, but otherwise the bottom zone of your aquarium will get very crowded.

Khulis are great but you rarely see them,i used to have a 5ft x 2ft x 2ft community tank with them (Also with small Clowns and Chains and no problems whatsoever) anyway i had 10 of them and when i sold all my community fish to make room for a Oscar i could only find 9 of them so i assumed one had died..

Anyway 18 months on my 2" Oscar baby grew into a 14" beast and i decided i was going to do a change up again! so i sold my Oscar and started cleaning my tank out ready to keep Discus and as i cleaned out the old sand....

I found a Khuli loach!!!

lol so he had been in there for 18 months with a Oscar big enough to eat him and his entire family with one gulp! and he survived with no scratches.

I wouldn't recommend it tho!

I don't know how well kuhlis will do with big clown loaches, but I can say that they hold their own with a school of active corys.

Here some are getting ready to eat a piece of butternut squach which they love.

I love my kuhlis!

They are always on the go and add a lot of movement to the tank. I would nt know if they disturbed the sand becuause I had them with gravel.

I reccomend a min of 6. The produce hardly any waste and are relativly cheap. I got 6 for £12.80.
