I'm going to set my 240l up at the weekend and won't be putting any fish in until a full cycle is complete however I'm wondering if anyone has done anything specific to help keep their cats out of the tank. It's got the lid obviously but one of ours (Yoda) is a devious little sod and at times I swear he is like the main Raptor in Jurassic Park. He sits there calm and calculating working things out!

I've thought of putting some sticky backed Velcro on the lid panels and on the black surround at the top of the frame with the other half of the Velcro attached over it when I don't need access. I figured that Velcro would be easy to remove without being a hassle but would definitely stop him or the other two from possibly getting a claw under the lip and wiggling in.

I'm not lying! I have 6 tanks and two cats! I never have cats int he fish tank cause i put the foot UP the butt!

I got 2 cats and the one would always jump on the tank lid and start to chew the air lines so the one day I just covered the top of the tank with a towel and left the lid off. The resulting fright and panic from the cat was very funny but it worked...

none of my cats have ever jumped on the tank (thats cats and kittens). and only one has shown any, long term, interest. even then it contented itself with sitting at the base of the tank, shaking it paw at them.
though it was funny when one cat met an escaped Crayfish, mid carpet. (perhaps it may not have been so funny, if i had not been there!)
anyway, both cat and cray survived (indeed there was no contact). but the cray must have said something to the cat. because it turned tails and ran, after the Cray took its defensive posture.

I've really never had a problem with my cats doing anything to the tanks but watching. Occasionally they will bat at the glass trying to catch the fish, but that is it. I went out of town for a week and came home to all of my fishtanks in tact. I really do not think you need to worry.

My cats just watch the fish as they go by, never bothered the fish, they occasionally would jump up on top of the tank and hang over and stare at the fish.

ive got 8 cats/kittens at the moment (cat rescue)that number fluctuates greatly with different cats comming and going and ive never had a cat/kitten that paid too much attention to the tank, some sit and watch for a while but thats about it

Ours bats at the corydoras, but he's scared of anything the size of an apisto or bigger.

Spray bottles put him off for a while, but he's stubborn, and stupid.

I think my oscars instigate though. the cats seem to more interested in the oscar hospital tank than the other fishtanks. BUt then again, they have 6 to choose from lol
