My Betta Is in a 4 gal with 2 Agassizi Corries. I would like to get him a girl friend, Is this possible? Will he live happily ever after with a female or will he fight her. When I first put other fish in with him he was quite agressive but soon he got on fine with them. Will he be agressive to a female as some peoples Bettas never fight with other fish but chong did (Could this mean he is overly agressive) Also as you can see there are already 3 fish in the 4 gal so will another Betta be too much.
Thanks everyone :D

I was told at my lfs that you need at least two female betta's per male, because if there is only one female and she is not ready to mate, he will kill her but if he has a choice he can go for the next one to mate, plus plants are needed for the females to hide from him or each other in, if they need to :S betta's loke their own space.

I've found that it all depends on the particular Betta in question. Some are more aggressive than others.

However - I dunno if you want to put any more fish in that tank - might be a little much for that little tank.

There are good odds though that the male will want to do the dance with the female, and could very well tear her up a bit.

Putting two females in with a male isn't always a safe bet either, as I've seen females be very aggressive towards one another.

You're just asking for trouble putting a male & female in a tank together for reasons other than spawning. They may be ok for a while, but why tempt fate with your beloved fish, do the right thing and keep them seperated. Females are ok together (in most cases, unless you have a particularly aggressive female) in groups of 3 or more, but I've heard just having 2 you will run into problems (something to do with pecking order, and there aren't enough with only 2).

If you have to keep males with females you need at least twenty gallons and 4 females becase two females will argue with eachother plus then the male will make it worse. The reason for the 20 gallon is because in a four gallon, where are the females going to go? Plus 4 females will not fight as much. With 3 two will gang up on one and with two they will just fight. Sounds weird but it's true.

So to sum up my paragraph (I wish I could do it this easily in speech class) don't get anymore fish for your tank.

Are we saying that as long as you have at least a 20g tank you can keep 1 male and 4 females together?

Matt

Eh, I should have fraised that last post a little better. One male might torture all of the females while another might leave them alone. It all depends on the fish. Or you could just have females as long as there are lots of hiding places. They are just as good as boys!

Thanks auratus. Ok then no more fish in that tank. I already thought that I wouldn't be able to get a girl in there aswell but just checking ;)
