What ya gotta do is make your tank LOOK like the inside of a pond. Use drift Wood and a variety of colored stone gravel and pebbels and a photographic background.

The problem what people do is they go in the LFS and say "aww its so cute and its so small andd they will stay small because they like me" DONT OR ILL SLAP YOU.......They will get big. Mine are. I plan on getting a huge tank for them and put them in my room.

Goldfish are funna fissh because they can almost sence your presence. And be warned....THEY EAT MORE THEN PROFESSOR KLUMP! You can start out with a 5 gallon tank but transfer once they start to grow into a bigger tank.

Then use the old tanks for Betta tanks. Its a great way to save money and start being a fish guru. Yep...Thats what ya need!

:p ;) :p :D :p

By the way,

This is a good idea for people who live in the north east like me.
The ponds would freeze over and kill little goldie there..........

A pinned artical siad it was horrable to keep goldfish in tank. They said it was a prison.....THEY LIE!!!..........

I'm not sure what post you are referring to that calls goldfish in tanks a "prison".

Perhaps you are thinking of danio2004's pinned post in this section, in which he says:

You need 20 U.S. gallons for the first fish
and 10 U.S. gallons for each additional fish
This means that in order to keep 5 goldfish
in a tank you would require 60 U.S. gallons.

That doesn't sound like a categorical warning against goldfish in tanks. Here is that link.

Also, if you are climates where winter occurs, you can keep your coldwater ponds heated over the winter, so that koi and goldfish will survive.

I did not say you can't keep goldfish in tanks, I said you can't keep goldfish in small tanks.

I was, and still am, fed up with the amount of posts on this and other forums saying my 5 galdfish are ill why? only to discover that they are kept in 20gallon tanks
The pinned post is to try to discourage miss-informed people about the horrors of keeping goldfish in small spaces.

Well I moved my 4 goldfish into a larger tank and now they're all dying and no one seems to know why and I feel like cr*p. :( They lived for 2 years in a smaller tank with no problems.

cant and shouldnt are 2 different things, danios pinned topic points out the pitfalls and problems of keeping fish in too small a tank,i think the best way to deal with this is to scale goldfish up to human size ,look how much space you use then imagine yourself living in a broom cupboard with poor sanitation and air supply, now how would you like it ? as for tanks being a prison any fish not in a natural surrounding could be viewed as such hence fishponds,a pond is as close to natural as you can get for goldfish ,failing this as large a tank as possible is required,as danio says people want to know why there fish die or are ill, rule of thumb should be research first fish second ,most people do it the other way round by which time its too late for the fish

steps of soapbox
