hi everyone, was having a think earier today and i had an idea, if i had my ex1200 at the same height as my tank or slightly above it would it help the flow, surely whe nthe filter is 500mm below a tank it must waste a lot of power through the long hose length, if i had it mounted on the wall next to the tank i could probaly run very small hose lengths and maxamise the flow per hour. am i being a daft beginner or am i on to something here? :)

I don't think it would work, they tend to use a siphon effect to draw water out of the tank and the pump only really works to refill back into the tank

(after my main tank cracked I am trying to mature the media (and keep the donated media alive) by cycling it in the storage box I had been soaking some bog wood in, with that level with the filter it simply would not prime, raised the box/tank and it worked a treat)

it wont work - externals are designed to be below tanks. If they are in-line or above, the pump doesn't have the power to suck the water up out of the tank, it relies a lot on gravity to pull the water into the filter.
