Hello. My calico molly gave birth yesterday. We had her separated in a fry net but unfortunately I think she ate most of them because when my husband noticed there was only one and she was chasing it. So we took her out and we have one tiny baby. How long does it normally take for them to be big enough to go in with the rest of the fish? I had one previous birthing last week and they ate all the babies :( Thanks in advance for your help.

It's 1am & I'm still up for this very same reason. My platy is in the process of giving birth, already at least 20+ fry in the net. When I checked not long ago she was still giving birth so I'm waiting another 45min to see. If I don't see her actively giving birth them I'm going to put her back in the main tank, at least I'll have more than 20 babies this time.

I have 3 platys that are at least 3 wks old (found them hiding in the tank up behind the heater & put them in net) & are big enough to be in my community tank. We let all 3 out yesterday but they were all pretty skiddish & I felt bad so managed to re-catch 2 of them & moved them into our 20g tank with the guppy fry about the same age. The 1 platy fry that we were unable to catch seems to be doing ok in our community tank. I've seen him (don't really know sex) eating when we feed the rest & he seems to be relatively happy. He's about the same size as some of our green neons so he's not the smallest in the tank. My understanding is that Molly's are slightly bigger than platys so I would think you could let yours go in 3 wks or less. Besides the 2 plecs are largest fish is a female swordtail & the female platy currently giving birth. We have a variety of tetras, small rasboras, 2 corys, 4 bumblebee gobys, 3 pea puffers, zebra danios, 2 swordtails, 8-10 platys, 1 female guppy & 3 african dwarf frogs.
