Hey all,
so origionally i defrosted the frozen bloodworm in a cup with some tank water and then fed it to the fish, but i found that quite a lot was falling to the bottom and so i then decided to keep the bloodworm frozen and throw the whole cube in, they all seemed to enjoy pulling the separate worms off the partially unfrozen cube, i thought this would be ok, but i read the other day that you should let it defrost, is it wrong to keep it frozen?

Cheers Sam

Oh and by the way quite a good way to do it is to drill through the frozen cube and thread some string through it, then re freeze it and when you are ready to feed them just dangle it in the water with the string coming up and then catch it with the hood. oh and also with daphnia this method doesnt work (keeping it frozen)

In my opinion, un-freezing would be the best solution if you ahave fish that stay on the bottom of the tank but it all depends on what fish you have.

I defrost my frozen foods in a small amount of tank water and never had a problem with food falling to the bottom. The fish devour it before it gets to the bottom. Are you dumping the whole cup in at once? I pour in a little at a time. I do about 4 or 5 pourings to get the whole contents of a cube into the tank. If you dump it all in at once try doing just a little at a time.

We actually do a weird combination of both. For our 5 gallon we just drop the frozen food in so it sinks to the bottom of the tank and the ADF gets some food instead of the Betta eating all of it. And with the 30 gallon we let it defrost in some tank water and just pour it in. Both seem to work great :)

Oops also forgot to add that it does help to have bottom feeders in both tanks, but all of our fish including 4 different kinds of tetras, gouramis and a Betta will eat the food of the bottom.

The first cube of frozen bloodworm went in frozen, now I leave a cube on paper towels for about an hour, an algea scraper I have there is a kind of hook on the other end I hold it at the top just under the water and the pole is more or less yanked from my hand :hey:

oh ok, well i dont have any bottom feeders really, except for my bn plec who rarely comes out and is fed well anyway. so no-one has heard that its bad to keep it frozen?

I must admit I always just toss the cube in and let them get on with it... it's funny to watch them chase the food as the cube zooms around in the flow!
