So I'm feeding my fry and I move the light over by my 10 gallon tank that's empty with about an inch of water left in it. What do I see floating around? Tiny white dots!! Jumping/swimming/floating about. I cannot make out any real form. They're literally white dots. Lol. I looked at the pinned Hitchhiker article, and I think they're cyclops, but wanna make sure? It's been sitting like that for over a week. What do you think? Should I completely sterilize the tank before moving in the fry?

Look very closely, press your face right up to the glass and if they look like this

Then they're definately cyclops and you should ring for the fire brigade.

(I apologise, I couldn't resist. I'll just go and sit in the corner and reflect upon my childish behaviour)

LOL

well that I would recognize...

I already read the thread about hitchhikers pinned on this forum before I posted.

The fry that are moving in there soon are Molly.

The problem is what I have are so small I can't see any detail on them to match them with the photos.... . I'm leaning toward water fleas since they're more round. On the cyclops, are you actually able to make out the tail/spike on the rear or the antenna? Cuz I can't see anything like that on mine.

Only if you have really good eyes or are using a magnifying glass. Are they mainly on the surfaces in the tank or mainly swimming about?

I'm leaning towards them being copepods as water fleas are larger and easier to make out in most cases.

Hmm, on closer inspection, they're round/oval shaped, white with tiny brownish/black spots on them? They jumping on the substrate and the glass, and there's bits of foam from some plants that they cling to.
