Well,a year back now i bought a rio 400 second hand, the braces were already broken but the tank was not bowing atall. Now it is really bowing, nearly a centimetre. As you can see the plastic braces have both come loose on one side. Now,would draining the tank and putting new ones in work?Or will the glass stay bent.I don't want this flowing into our living room so i need opinions and help! :shout:

The pic before last if showing how it is bowing.
O,and the last pic is of the corner to corner where the width is 20 inches(what it should be.)

I have same problem and wondered was it a fault Jewel can recognise. I bought tank Jan 2006 and who knows how long it was in the shop before then as it was sold cheaply. Still a price but I guess like me the lid does not fit.

I have written to juwel as this I feel is a manufacturing problem.

Its a common "fault"

They will probubly offer to replace the brace - but you will have to drain the tank to flex it back into place

Well at least then the roof will fit and the fish will not get cold I know its summer but the temp does drop overnight. I want another tank but for now it seems my fish will have to be rehomed if I get nothing asap.

well Juwel are very good at not writing back quickly and there is a clause that they only deal with the vendor and not the purchaser or that is how it appears to read.
If Juwel Aquarium GmbH & Co. KG failed to honour a delivery time, the ordering party would be entitled to default Juwel Aquarium GmbH & Co. KG. A claim with regard to a default must be submitted in writing or via e-mail and shall allow for a period of at least 3 weeks for executing the order. If Juwel Aquarium GmbH & Co. KG failed to execute the order, the ordering party would be entitled to cancel the agreement with an additional notice of two weeks.

Additional claims of the ordering party for any legal reason, in particular claims for damages, shall be excluded unless Juwel Aquarium GmbH & Co. KG breached its contractual obligations in a grossly negligent or deliberate manner.

So it seems the ordering party not us? if I have this wrong
If the replacement were to also exhibit a defect, or if the rectification of the defect were to fail, or if Juwel Aquarium GmbH & Co. KG were to default with regard to the rectification of the defect after a notice of at least two weeks had been given in writing, the ordering party would be entitled to choose at its convenience to either cancel the agreement or demand an appropriate reduction of the purchase price.

They are a good dealer so I am unsure why it is taken so long but it does say two weeks above so I shall wait. I cannot do much until after easter as it would be too dangerous to empty and have that much glass around.

If you drop the water level by 1/3 or so it will put that much less pressure on the glass. It may run a little noisy with the filter splashing water in, and it may look a little goofy, but it will be less noisy & goofy than the side blowing out, soaking everything underneath.
