Hello, I have a Vision 180 and was wondering if the entire black filter box can come out to be cleaned? The glass around the black filter box is very dirty and I can't get to it to clean it.

Also is there a trick on cleaning the lighting tubes, mine are layered with something?

TMany tanks

I have one of these. Afraid the filter box is fixed by silicone, however one way to clean it ( iassume it has water in ) is to empty the media - sponges etc and use a gravel filter/cleaner syphon to pick any rubbish out.

Not too sure about the lights, a damp cloth maybe will do it

I used to stick a syphon tube down those shafts and suck out the muck. It was pretty disgusting to say the least - despite doing this every few weeks (on top of the usual weekly water change and basic filter clean).
In my opinion that's a bad design.
Nope - you can't do anything about the debris between the filter and the tank as it's siliconed in.

Those are some of the reasons I removed mine and replaced it with an external filter :)

Oh and for the lights - this might sound naughty - so do this at your very own risk and take extreme care - but when mine got really bad, I removed them (put them in the bath or sink) and used to spray anti-limescale spray (like the Cif stuff for bathrooms) on the tube part only (being extremely careful not to get anywhere near the end caps/fittings. Leave for a minute to do the job and break down limescale and wipe off with a damp cloth. I then also rinsed it off exceptionally well (again extremely careful not to get anywhere near the end caps).

Do you have a pic of your tank?

Also where can I get one of these syphon tubes from, I'v heard you can get powered ones too...

ive found Aquatics Online to be a reasonable bet good prices and fast delivery :)

i have one of the HOB power gravel cleaners!! its the nuts!!! deffo recoment it :)

I also have a Jewel tank a Rio 400, i emptied out the filter box and use an external filter the box inside is a good place to hide equipment like your heater and inlet for your external filter ;)

HTH

Those pictures look great! How do you keep the water so clear. What i mean my water is clear but has a sort green look to it sometimes. I always do weekly water changes too.

Also i can't find a good (UK) site for parts/replacements for the Juwel tanks, I remember ages I had found one, but have lost it, do you know of any?
