Hi

I'm new to forums so please excuse my inability to use them.

I have a Juwel Vision 260 with the internal filter which I am planting up slowly, however I cannot seem to find an acceptable position for the filter outlet that doesn't result in either delicate plants been blown around the tank or make the surface agitation almost extreme.

When I bought the tank it came with the 1500lph juwel pump instead of the normal 1000lph which I believe may be part of the problem, but I really don't want to spend any money buying a new pump.

anyone who has a juwel vision 260 internal filter, where have you pointed the outlet? mine is currently facing towards the back which makes the main body of the tank calm but the surface movement more than most fish seem to be able to cope with. I see many a planted tank online with serene gentle surface movement and gentle swaying of plants and I am feeling this is not achievable with the pump I have.

any input would be greatly appreciated

Tess

Hi, I don't have this exact tank but I do have a Juwel. I had my outlet nozzle pointing upwards until the tank became a fry tank for a while and it was too fast for them. At this point I tilted the nozzle ever so slightly towards the back wall.

I do think though that if this tank has got the wrong pump - or rather a pump that's too powerful you might find you will have to replace it for the one it's designed for. The alternative is to remove the filter altogether and fit an external - this might be cheaper so it's worth researching prices :)

I have mine pointing the same way as I think you described. You could possibly get a spray bar that would dissipate the flow. I have a lot of floating plants which cover the half of the tank furthest from the outlet and this probably stops a lot of the flow.

If I have it pointing upwards I get a fountain of water about 6 inches out of the top! haha

I currently have the water level so high the central support bar is into the water and this seems to act as a breaker of sorts so only one half of the tank is choppy.

would reducing the pump size down change the effectiveness of the filter significantly? the tank is only lightly stocked at the moment so isn't an issue for now.

I think the oversized pump has also contributed to a number of smaller fish being sucked into the filter itself and not being able to fight again the pull. That was not a good day.

it certainly sounds like this is the wrong pump for this tank. I would definitely look into changing it. Have you had a look on Juwel's website? There is a 'contact us' section and they are really good at customer service. They might be able to suggest something else if you ask them :)
