Hi, this is my first ever forum post. And I was wondering if any one can help. I am looking to set my Jewel Rio 240 Tank up as a Planted tank. I have already changed the substrate to 100% seachems fluorite red. I am now looking to upgrade the lighting; currently I have the standard juwel lighting which is 2 x 38 w N.O T8 bulbs. This gives me approx 1.2 watts per gallon; I understand this really is not enough. So I am looking to replace the hood with an Acadia over tank laminar with 4 x 54w H.O T5 lamps. Replacing the marine lamps that come with the unit with 2 x D&D Aqua Flora lamps, 1 D&D Mid Day 6000 and 1 D&D Aqua Blue. This will give be approximately 3.4 Watts per gallon.

Is this too much lighting, and does anybody have any other suggestions for lighting

Hi,

I have a Juwel Rio 125, I swapped the supplied tubes with 1 x T8 Interpet Daylight Plus and 1 x T8 Arcadia Freshwater Lamp and added Juwel reflectors. I realise this is only just over 1W per UK G but my plants are doing fine. I have used fine gravel with a laterite mix and a 25w undergravel heater cable. I also have 2 Nutrafin CO2 kits which are cheap but effective.

Here's a link to my pic nominated for large totm, it's under gf225 (obviously)
