Hi...

Wonder if someone can help me.. i have just bought a 3 week old Juwel tank with a stand. Stocked and all ok inside the tank.. well at the moment. Only problem is i have put the tank upstairs in my office on the carpet floor and downstairs in the kitchen you can hear the hum of the filter   Is this normal??? Anybody got an idea why this is happening and what i can do to mitigate the noise.. Shopkeeper said to me that she hasnt heard of it before

Help

I presume you mean the Juwel filter do you.
I sometimes get a humming after i have switched off the tank to do the clean up and when i switch everything back on the filter sometimes gives a humming sound.

Try to remove the pump head and re-fit,it may not be installed fully into the chamber.

But the one solution i have always had is really simple,as daft as it may sound switch off the filter for a few seconds then switch it back on.I know it sounds silly bit it works every time for me.Dont ask why but it does.
Maybe there is some sludge that needs a gentle kick to free itself,i dont know.Give it a shot it cant do any harm. :)

thanks..will try out.. if anybody else got any suggestions please let me know.

HA!

And Juwel assured me that I must have oversensitive hearing when I first complained about mine being noisy! Phone 'em up and moan about it. Yes it's normal. If you do a little digging, you will find that others have the same issues as yourself. The powerhead is just cheap and nasty, and unbalanced being the key thing. Juwel changed the powerhead construction, and it all went wrong from thereon out. If it continues to bug you, get yourself a nice Eheim 2213. It will cost about £55 delivered, with the media, and won't ever give you problems with noise. Then phone up Juwel, and tell 'em that the internal filter stinks, and to do something about it, cos it's just cost you £55 to sort out their manufacturing defect. One word of warning however, don't remove the internal filter, because if you geta problem with the top brace cracking, they won't entertain it under warranty. I will never buy another Juwel tank. It's a Rena for me next time :good:

Yeah, my Juwel filter tends to vibrate a little, it seems common to Juwel tanks. However, mine worsened after fitting the reflectors.

Do you have these fitted? If so they exacerbate the noise a bit as they are quite thin and pick up the vibration from the pump.

Well i'm the odd one out here ! i'm pleased with mine & the only time there is a problem is when i take the pump out and put it back , i find the lead vibrates against the heater so i have to wiggle it about a bit .

Naaah,

I rather un-ceramoniously(sp) smashed my powerhead to bits with a large hammer. It really did drive me insane. Curiously, in the weeks of experimentation that precluded the smashing, I found that the noise was much less annoying if I left the lid open  No good with a 13 year old daughter spraying all kinds of smelly aerosols around eh?

Juwel filters are OK if you can't hear them. It's a personal thing. I think Juwel should give you the option, filter or no filter. Just IMHO. Oh, and maybe admit that they might be just a little bit noisy....hmm? :good:
