I'm looking at turning a juwel rekord 96 (32" x 12" x 16") in to a nano reef. Lighting wise I'm down to two options;

use an arcadia over tank luminaire (I will probably use the 36" luminaire as this has 39W bulbs (x4) instead of 24W bulbs (x4)

add 2x 55W PC lights into the hood

The PC option is obviously much cheaper. The only problem being how difficult it is to fit them in

I've owned a rekord 96 before and remember that the lighting unit is pretty chunky and sealed off. Is there an easy way of getting the existing unit out? Taking a hacksaw or something to it, to remove the current 18W t8 starter unit, and then installing the PC unit?

Or, am I better off just going for the luminaire and saving myself all the trouble?

Now I know nothing of marine tanks or what lighting you require (was reading new posts and stumbled across this) but I do have a rekord 96.

I don't know if it is any help at all but you can now buy the newer T5 light units, I think the one that fits the rekord 96 is the
Juwel Replacement Lighting - Multilux 80

I presume you can put in some high ouput tubes in.

Like I say don't know if it's any help but might be worth a look :fun:

Thanks for the reply, I can't seem to find how many tubes are in the lighting upgrade, weather its 1 or 2?

Either way I don't think it will be enough light for what I'm looking for, which is why i'm looking at a luminaire (156W total) or PC (110W+)
