I have recently purchased a new Juwel Rekord 600 (a small 63 litre tank). It came as a beginner package complete with internal filter, heater, and a Juwel Eccoflow 300 pump.

I have however run into a problem whilst installing the above.

The internal filter is a box fitted into the far right corner, with a hole in the side of the box meant for the pump outlet to go through.

However the Eccoflow pump does not allign with the hole properly once into the internal holder/frame. When fitted into it (and it sits snugly in the holder, so you have to prise to get it back out), the outlet on the pump sits about half a centimetre too high for the hole in the box. This means I am unable to fit the outlet pipe through the hole and onto the pump. The rest of the setup (heater and sponge filters) fit perfectly.

I am reluctant to apply much more force whilst trying to fit the pump in as I don't want to break anything, and from my previous attempts it doesn't seem as if the problem is that the pump isn't sitting properly. The problem, to my eyes, seems to be that the layout is just off with little less than a centimetre.

Has anyone else encountered problems fitting this particular model, and how did you work around it?

I have to admit I was under the impression the pump was meant to fit lightly into the holder for ease of removal and cleaning etc. At the moment, should I manage to get it properly in, I am not sure I'd want to risk removing it when needed in the future if there is fish in the tank, since I'm not confident I could get it back in place in time!

Hi, I have a Juwel Rekord 800 - although mine is at least 4 years old now and is currently empty and sitting my shed. If I could go out there and have a look to re-familiarise myself I would but it would mean lifting it off a head height shelf so I'm not able. I'm going to have to go by memory.

I think the black nozzle should have a rubber 'O' ring on the end and you push that into the hole so the edge of the box is flush with the 'O' ring. Your power head then just sits in the housing. From memory the opening of the powerhead isn't meant to go through the hole. I think it just forces the water out through the outlet nozzle.

I don't think my power head lines up with the hole ... in fact I seem to remember being confused about this myself when it was new.

What I would say is Juwel customer service is good and so if you have any questions I'd pop over to their website and see if you can email them

I have the Rio 125 with Ecco 500 kit pump. It should fit snugly in, drop it in and just a light push. The nozzle should go in.
Is there anything blocking the pump? 1/2 cm is a lot to be misaligned.

Thanks guys!

I was quite confounded, but after much trial and error this morning I managed to get the dividing "wall" between the filter chambers out. This is the one meant to be holding the pump and heater. It was sitting quite stubbornly in place inside the box! So instead of trying to get the pump into position straight into the filter box, as shown on the instructions, I tried securing it into place onto the divider whilst the divider was out. This did enable me to coax it the needed .5 cm further down, and I then pushed the divider back into place with the pump already on. I still have no hope of removing it or pushing it back in without removing the divider, but as long as I can do it this way I am happy.

All in all a bit more work than I was told, but until I am confident enough to tailor or modify a filter system to my needs I can cope with this.

I will be starting the fishless cycling in a couple of weeks or so depending on when my test kit arrives, and once it is cycled I am looking forward to hopefully housing a few male guppies.
