Does anyone know roughly how much a 120 litre 4 foot tank (Rekord 120) would weigh approx?

We currently have our tank on my partners desk (its a very strong desk), but are going to be moving into our house hopefully in 2 weeks time, and want to have the fish in the living room, which means they no longer have a stand.

I know you can get the stands designed esp for the tank, but these are quite expensive, and cash flow isn't great after buying a house, so I was hoping to get them a piece of furniture strong enough to hold the tank, but still quite reasonably priced. Preferably something with a cupboard or drawers or something like that which can double up as storage.

If anyone has any ideas on a stand, or an idea of the weight, so I can check it against anything I find in the shops that would be great.

I guess if every 1 liter is 1 kg this means that it is about 130 to 140 kg including the decorations and gravel and the equipments.

Ah ok, I didn't realise 1litre - 1kg. Will bear this in mind when furniture shopping thanks!

mine came with a stand so if you contact your lfs they should be able t hook you up

Yeah there are stands in the lfs, but they're about £80, so was looking to get something not designed specifically for the tank, which will be cheaper, but still do the job!

The best option for stands is always to go with one specifically designed for the tank.

The little more spent on initial outlay is a small price to pay for peace of mind and is less than possibly having the stand fall over, spilling all your beloved fish out on the floor.

totally agree with you :good:

Yes I did suggest that at first, but my partner isn't happy at the amount of money I already want to spend on other bits of furniture, so wouldn't agree to the buying a proper stand option.
I've just been searching around trying to find one cheaper somewhere else!

have a look on ebay you may pick one up cheap on there :good:

Well we got the ok on our mortgage today (was all held up as we had to get a suveyor out to look at a crack, which turned out to be nothing), so my partner was finally convinced to buy some house stuff.

I've convinced him to get a proper stand for the fish, and found one online for about £60, which was a little cheaper than in the shops, so I think we're going to go for that one, and that way the fish will be nice and safe! I did look on ebay, but couldn't find anything cheaper than that.

Thanks for your advice though!

visit rocktrading.they have a shop on ebay! i bought my juwel 96 including the cabinet for only £150. Cheap as chips!

ebay. I got the stand for my 4 foot tank for a tenner. Otherwise scour the auction rooms locally for a nice solid wood sideboard or dresser base. I have use this in the past. Don't get nasty chipboard though.
