Was doing a water change but forgot to turn filter off so it went about a minute with no water then i realised and turned it off. Filled the tank back up turned it back on and it worked for 2 minutes and then went off with smoke coming from it. Anyone know if this is fixable

Sounds like you may have blown the motor mate, i've done this myself before. You can get a new pump for about £15-20 online and in most shops.

You could try salvaging it by taking it apart. If memory serves me right the pump will be black and grey/white, the black bit should pop out from the white bit and you can get inside. Give it a clean, take out any gunk and pop it back together and try again. If it doesnt work i'd go out and buy a new one.

What ashame, what tank is it you have?

I have just taken out a pump from my old Juwel filter, no longer need it..was going to flog on ebay.

Mine sometimes stops working after a water change, its usually due to the dirt inside so I give it a clean and it works again.

I had my internal juwel filter on my Rio 180 for 2 years, i think i blew it several times. On 3 occasions i completely blew it and had to buy a new pump. In the end i took out the entire filter box and thre it away and opted for an external. Never had a problem ever since. I've gained more space inside the tank, and the external is far more efficient for the same LPH ratio :)

As painful as it is, it's a good thing too.

Now you can buy a 1000lph pump to fit in it's place. Cheap but decent filter upgrade :good:
