Hi,

I have just set up my new Juwel Rio 125 tank and I am really confused!!! The Juwel filter system which is enclosed in the big black casing is fully submurged in water. However, the instructions tell me that I need to change some of the sponges on a regular basis. How am I meant to do this when they are submerged under water??? Am I meant to take almost half of the water out of my tank every time i need to do this? Sorry, If this is a stupid question!

Thanks in advance

Hi James.

I dont know about the Rio 125 but on the Vision 260 there is a lid on the top of the filter which comes off.
If you reached inside you should find a handle to which you can lift out the baskets,in the 260 there is two baskets.Lift them out and hey presto.
Good luck.

Woops..feel embarrased now :*)

Also: you don't need to change the Juwel sponges anywhere near as often as they tell you. The white floss pads at the top you change every week. If you are using the carbon sponge you need to change that as they tell you too, about every three months (I've replaced mine with another blue sponge). The green and blue sponges you only change when they disintegrate: that's where the beneficial bacteria live so you want to guard them with your life. Rinse the blue and green sponges about once a month by gently swishing them in old tank water (taken out during water change)- but not more than one sponge in the same week.

Hi,

Sorry to but in... :) I've thought about replacing the carbon with a blue as well. Which blue to use though? Fine or course? Any advice...?

Cheers,

DB

Thanks. I was concerned that a fine sponge might reduce flow, but I suppose that the carbon is quite fine so it shouldn't matter. Doh! Why do we worry so much...
