Hi

I went to my tank tonight and thought that filters quiet! Then I found out it was not running I toke alook at the fuse nothing! toke the filter out the tank and it stinks of melted plastic I removed the impeller houseing to fined 2 melted lumps no wonder my waters been turning cloudy the last few days!

Only had the tank 5 month!

Lucky for my my externals still going had anyone else had this? and will the fumes leaching into the tank affect the fish?

ouch! how old was the filter? plus i would do a few very big water changes, and gravel vacs. there are all sorts of nasty things i plastic when it melts. can yo put up some pictures of the damaged parts?
 
The only way that plastic could have melted inside the impellor casing like that is if the impeller was not cleaned properly or it was allowed to run dry, a constant supply of water would prevent the plastic from heating enough to melt.

unless there was a fault or crack in the waterproofing, this may well cause the type of short that could do this.

No no cracks and not ran dry! the impellor is a clean as a whistle too! It was working fine one minute burnt out the next I dont understand it maybe a bad fuse that did not blow?

No no cracks and not ran dry! the impellor is a clean as a whistle too! It was working fine one minute burnt out the next I dont understand it maybe a bad fuse that did not blow?
in which case we need to know when you bought it. it is just possible that there my have been a manufacturing fault.
