hi
I recently posted about my Juwel tank because the bracing bars snapped off. While I was on the phone to Juwel I thought I'd mention a rather annoying little thing that keeps happening - I get small electric shocks off of my lighting!
They are only annoying tickles, like bad static really, but I thought it was about time I came to my senses and considered the danger of getting 'buzzed' by the mains electric with my hands in water.
Juwel advised me to go back to the outlet I bought it at and get them to test the lights to see if they are faulty. The store said that they get this problem quite a lot and that the customer is to blame most of the time as we over-fill the tank and therefore cause condensation to build up on the units!! Also adding new fish raises the level and so does doing maintenance according to them!!!!
Please can someone save my sanity and tell me whether this is true or not otherwise I am going to be either getting very angry with them and making a fool of myself if I am wrong. )
We never overfill the tank (there doesn't seem to be any room to either) and we never raise the water level during maintenance (personally I tend to take water out to change it BEFORE putting more water in.... )
Does anyone else have trouble with tickly Juwel light units or similar who can shed some light (mind the pun) on this one before I head off down to the shop on the weekend???
P.S. The tank is a Rio 400 and I have changes the clips that hold the light bulbs to metal ones as the plastic ones supplied snapped not that I believe that having metal clips ahould make any difference.
