This is the 2nd time my plecs have bread, and I am starting to see dead babies in the filter stack which is obviously annoying as I'd really like to bring some of the babies up.

What are some of the options? I have a Rio 125L.

Thankyou,

Tim.

put some tights over the filter?

(ps i am also Tim from Norwich...)

or you might be better off moving them to a smaller tank and setting up a DIY sponge filter

Take the filter out and replace it with an external filter, just done mine for similar reasons, water quality much better and babies saved!!!!

The external filters are more powerful aren't they? I don't have a lot of money to be spending on more things :(

It's not easy to cover the filter with tights as there are like 2/3 inlet points I think?

on the assumption your Rio 125 has the same style filter as my 180, you should be able to pull tighes over. But yea - there are inlets at the bottom and at the top

just pull a pair of tights over the hole thing. doesnt matter if it even covers the out let. water will still be able to pass.

I am finding it hard to understand how the tights will stay secure at the bottom of the filter, as only 2 of 4 sides are not siliconed onto the aquarium.

Just purchased those, I know somebody who can cut plastic/glass for cheap so going to give that a go, will let you know how I get on.

My aim is to just seperate the rest of the tank from the pair of Ancistrus, if I get a plastic divider I will drill small holes in it, if I get glass I will just use a sponge filter.
