I won a new Bioflow 1500 pump on Ebay last week, thinking I could upgrade the 1000 pump that came with my Rio240. However, the new pump is huge, far too big for the cavity of my tank's combined chamber (a mystery Bioflow of some sort, but this new pump has a surface area of ~2.5"x2", making it ~1x1cm too big for the cavity).

Firstly, I would be grateful if owners of this pump could confirm which chamber they have it in (I believe it only fits in the Bioflow 6.0, but I would love to confirm if it might fit in say the Jumbo, for example).

Secondly, I would really appreciate anyone getting in touch who has such a chamber unit that is surplus to their needs.

If the above fails, I may need to pick the brains of those of you that make simplistic sponge filters out of pumps, to that I can use this decent current with some filtration capacity!

the 1500 will not fit the 6.0, it will only fit the jumbo.

Sorry Ian, only discovered in last few minutes that there are two different Juwel 1500 pumps... Mine is a Bioflow 1500

I'm still 99% sure that the other one doesn't fit. Juwel rehashed the powerheads a couple of years ago, like I say, I'm sure neither of the 1500 powerheads will fit the 6.0 biofilter.

Hmm, hopefully someone with this pump will chirp in... I think "Scotty" may have one.

Wish I had realized this shortfall before buying, as Juwel filters are not reknowned for their filtration power, I thought I was simply getting a 50% improvemnt from the filter I had in place...

Are you after the big black box bit? I have spares from a rio 300 & 400 I can measure from the edge of the box to the slidy up and down bit where the suck part of the pump goes and measure to where the outy big goes if that helps. I know on mine the where the pump fits is like a horseshoe shape as mine is for the older style pump.

Just one thing, explain for a blone what bits you need measuring

This pump came with the rounded diamond connector, but I've no idea if a horseshoe adapter is available for these mammoths of the Juwel range!

Its the rectangular cavity that the pump inside connector fits into which is my initial problem... Looking from directly above the open Juwel chamber, this pump needs a gap of ~2.5x2 inches to drop into.

I hope I have done this right  From the inside edge to the plate inside is 1 1/2", the drop from the top to the plate is 5 1/2", (whole thing is about 6" accross) I ran an 1100l/hr juwel pump inside which is 3" x 2 1/2" x 3".

I have an old one of these that fits into the shaft part, its rubber you could possibly cut it up to fit your pump so it fits in the slot??

Hope this helps!! :good:

Thanks for that star4, but I think its too small.

I got in touch with Scotty and he says he removed whatever Juwel filter he had and put it in the shed. He is going to let me know over the weekend what he has, as if memory serves me rightly he upgraded to an APS 2000EF a month or two ago.

No problems, :good: I hope you get sorted

Well some weeks later, I've yet to come across a Juwel filter box that fits this monster, so for now I am looking for some reassurance on my "plan b"... Turning this 1500lph pump into a basic powerhead!

If I secure some "koi filter wool" over the intake, using some read elastic bands (hmm, where did they come from? ;) ), presumeably it just a case of positioning it and then plugging the pump in?

I am planning to net "Mr Stumpy" and the mightly fast new Barilius youngsters out of the 620T and put them in the Rio240, where I will add this 1500 pump for more current (in addition to the Juwel 1000lph pump in filter chamber plus the "Koralia1" 1400lph powerhead). Hopefully this will give them something to "play" in before there eventual release into the 5x2x2 garage tank in the near future, as must as I like the idea of keeping them quarantined I feel so guilty couping them up in a 2-foot long tank.

If you simply want to use an existing pumping unit to move water through a filter, why not get a simple sponge filter like this one?

I got that one on line for under $10.

I probably need to add something like that, Oldman47, as my attempt at using the pump created an almighty mess in my Rio240 last weekend!

The "Koi Wool" had strands that got pulled into the impeller which stopped it turning, but even when it was clear, the flow was drastically reduced within a minute of starting it up.
I then cut a small section of mesh (very similar to that used in the "75p divider" thread) and secured it to the input of the Bioflow 1500 housing used when this pump is normally placed within a filter chamber... The current created sand dunes, trenches around my plants and a whole lot of "debris fog" (partly some tiny wormlike creatures but also the Dennerle Deponitmix that got churned into the water column)!

The thing that shocked me the most was the power of this unit when active, the concentrated output of 1500lph was incredible, really shows how the radial output of the 1400lph Koralia1 disperses that power.
