In the juwel aquarium manual namely my one rio125, it says they dont recommend using extra devices for aeration such as airstones.

Any one no any reason why and anyone had any experiences?

I have no idea why they don’t recommend using an air stone.

How ever I see no problems running them. Just angling the internal filter outlet upwards will generate more that ample surface movement. This is what I do in my tank. I am assuming you still have the internal filter.

If the air stone is just for decoration and you like the bubble stream in the tank then running it is not going to cause any problems.

further on in the manual it says you can use them as long as there 9-12" from the filter but if you using one and the pump packs up thay wont oner the warranty

edit. i think this is in the manual so your buy thier Air Diffuser (£6)

LOL,

I might get put an airstone in. I bought the airdiffusor but it dont work to well, and it puts airbubbles on the glass. Makes the tank look messy/.

I think they say this for 2 reasons.

1. Because they dont want air bubbles carrying sand etc into the filter intake and then you taking the powerhead back to them for a replacement because its full of sand.

2. Because they want you to buy their Venturi system.

I have ran airstones in Juwel tanks for years with no problems. Just keep them away from the filter inlet. :good:

Though unless you are heavily overstocked or have poor water quality you don't need an airstone, the water movement from the filter outlet will be more than sufficient to keep enough oxygen in the water.

'If' you add CO2 then all an airstone does is drive it off more quickly.

Though I am not overstocked nor have a problem with the water, it would merely be cosmetic reasons.
