My neighbours daughter has a 3 1/2ft tank with 2 white cloud minnows, 1 comet goldfish and 1 oranda. Is this over stocked?
I have pictures of the goldfish. Oh and she's thinking of getting some koi carp for it :crazy: which she will grow on till they are big enough, then they will go in her nans 10ft tank and once they are close to fully grown the will go in her nans pond outside.
The Oranda.

It should be OK wih good filtration.I have adopted several rescued goldfish that were previously kept in small bowls and have more fish than that in a 4ft tank and my water stats are fine with 33% weekly water changes. A couple of baby koi will be fine till they grow to 4in+.Anyway she's lucky to have the option of rehoming in a pond when they get too big. Wish I had room for a 10ft tank!

In my opinion,

This tank is not over stocked now :) It looks quite nice.

But adding Koi is a no no. They grow fast and large. and keeping them with slower fancy goldfish is a bad idea as they will fin nip and end up killing the fancies.

This is just going by what i know.

Just wanted to say i love the pic of your red cap, looks like he has just crashed in a nose dive position.

Keith.

Any thoughts on the white cloud mountain minnows? I would have thought that once the goldfish get big enough they would eat them....
Also she isn't adding anymore fish for a while because the red cap/oranda has swim bladder problems now.

The goldies will definitely eat the minnows once they can fit them in their mouths!

Ooh, forgot to mention. She does want the koi's but she can't add them yet because of swim bladder problems but she wasn't planning to get rid of the comet once it got too large for the tank. To be fair, her final stocking looks to be too much since the filter isn't all that large... The final stocking will be 3 comet's, 4 oranda's, 3 koi carp and the 2 mountain minnows. I really don't think this will work out and I've tried to tell her that but she won't listen, her mother has 2 3ft tanks downstairs that are over run with dying guppies. The whole house has really bad tanks in it, her mother doesn't even quarantine or acclimatise new fish. Why do people not listen!?

In a 3 1/2 foot tank?!!! :crazy:

I'm sure you're right; that's way overstocked, even if she had a big external filter.

:sad:

I don't know why *sighs*

It makes me want to;
