hmm okay, no real obvious issues then... how big are the bala sharks?

Test water again tomorrow and do a few from different areas in the tank - Im just wondering if you have a dead spot that is causing a trace reading.

Quite a high reading for a dead spot unless there's a big accumulation of rotting food....possible though.

A 'dead spot' is an area that gets very low circulation due to being in an eddy caused by decor usually.

Last Sunday it had a really good clean, gravel, all plants, slate etc i didnt touch the filter though

It's worth doing all four to see what's changed. But for your sake, and moreover the sake of your fish, it's best to have a good regular maintainance routine and try and keep to it. Little and often is the best way to keep you tank healthy.

One more thing that's worth considering is to periodically check the parameters of your tapwater. I have had occasions when I have had to delay a change as the nitrates in my tapwater have been higher than the tank! It can be all to easy to assume the tapwater is "safe" to use, when in truth there can be occasions when it does more harm than good.

why do people always say 0 ammonia when the only time I have had 0 ammonia in my tank was when I did not have fish in for 2 days? as there is always gonna be ammonia in the tank as the fish are always produceing it.

In a cycled tank, the level of ammonia is so low it won't show up on our tests.

When i get home from work tonight i will do all 4 tests again and post up the results :)
