Must have put too much yeast in this time as it has pumped the yeast and sugar mixture into my tank, turning the water cloudy.

I'm not sure what I should do, or whether it is even harmful to the fish. I immediately did a 25% water change and then put a bag of activated carbon in my filter. Will this suffice? There must be someone on here who has made the same mistake, if so please help.

I've done it before...

put some extra aeration in, and do a few more water changes. should be fine. :good:

Hi,
I did this about 3 weeks ago, the advice I got was to do massive water changes. Did any yeast actually get into the tank?

hi newbie here to posting but always reading, i did this aswel. all i did was do a 40% water change on day and done another 40% on the second day and all the fish was fine and no problems so far

At the end of the day yeast is just another bio-organism, aslong as you ensure it doesnt deplete the oxygen levels in the tank and remove it as quikly as you can then it wont do a huge amount of harm :)...and make sure next time you either reduce the yeast or sugar :p if you see it rising too much, a little pinch of salt can help kill some off.

Also, what kind of yeast-based CO2 diffusion were you using? I would be sure to make an overflow bottle so this doesn't happen again!

how do i make that? What addition can i make to my DIY CO2 system. I have an airtight cap and an air tube going through it and the other end is in the tank with an airstone

Not being funny but how would a check valve help? If you put a valve there to stop the yeast getting into the tank then you will also stop the CO2 getting into the tank. check valves are only useful the other way round in that you can stop the water from the tank siphoning back down into the CO2 system whilst the opposite way still lets CO2 up the line.

Best way is just to reduce the amount of sugar and yeast so that it produces without passing up the line, and only fill water 2/3 of the bottle. No point trying to max out the mix and make it last longer. Change it wekly to get the best consistency.

If required use 2 bottles linked into a T piece with less mixture in them and change alternatively (but still each one weekly)
